Ages 4+ · Featurettes (Baton Twirling)
Baton twirling, the CK way.
A 50-year teaching tradition in baton twirling, passed from Jeannie Strain at Calico Kids to a new generation of competitors and performers.
The Featurettes are CK Dance's baton twirling program — a continuation of the work that Jeannie Strain began at Calico Kids more than fifty years ago. Generations of Texas champion twirlers came up through Jeannie's program; today, that tradition continues at CK with daughter Lee Ann at the helm and former students teaching the next class of athletes.
What you'll learn
Beginning twirlers learn fundamentals — toss-and-catch, fingertwirl, basic spins, footwork, and showmanship. Intermediate and advanced twirlers progress to multi-baton routines, aerials, fire twirling (advanced/with permission), and full competition choreography. We teach in the Twirl-O-Jacks tradition with strong emphasis on technique and presentation.
